Text from display card reads:

“This walking cane was carved by Charles Bluejacket, a mixed-blood Shawnee, who became a Methodist minister. Bluejacket was in charge of the Shawnee Indian Mission during the Civil War. He carved and presented this cane to his friend and fellow minister Charles Boles sometime before leaving Kansas in 1872.

“The cane has been in the possession of Charles Boles’ descendants since his death in 1902. In May of 2009, using funds from KSHS, Inc., the Kansas Historical Society was able to add this exquisite piece to its collection.”
